Actor Nicholas Brendon was arrested for the fourth time this year after choking a girlfriend during an argument Wednesday night, police said. The former “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Criminal Minds” star became enraged when the woman said she was leaving him at a Saratoga Springs, N.Y. hotel, said Saratoga Springs police Lt. Bob Jillson.Brendon snatched the woman’s car keys and then tossed her cellphone into the street when she tried to call for help, police said."It sounds like it went downhill from there," Jillson said. "He allegedly grabbed her by the throat and started choking her.”Brendon had left the
downtown hotel by the time police arrived, but they found him a few blocks away and arrested him at 11:40 p.m., police told the Times Union of Albany. Alcohol was involved in the incident, police said.Brendon now faces charges of robbery, obstruction of breathing and criminal mischief to go with others from his prior arrests this year. He didn’t respond to an email sent early Friday.Brendon was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication during the XCon World Comic Convention in May. Police said he also got booked for criminal mischief and property damage at one Florida hotel in March and for refusing to pay his bill at another Florida hotel the month before. Brendon’s marriage fell apart earlier this year, and he checked into rehab in June.He called himself an addict and said he had gotten drunk before a taping of “Dr. Phil” in a Facebook post on his official page in September. Brendon also said he had been molested as a child and was “actively participating in treatment and remaining positive in the light of negativity” in the post.“I commend those living with depression, alcoholism, the kicker that is dual diagnosis and are brave enough to speak out and ask for help,” Brendon wrote. “You guys are my heroes.”
