Arsenal’s rising star, Ethan Nwaneri, has left his international future wide open as he remains undecided on whether to represent Nigeria or England, The PUNCH reports.
Born to a Nigerian father and an English mother, the 17-year-old attacking midfielder is eligible to play for both countries. According to UK-based journalist Shina Oludare, Nwaneri is willing to honour whichever country approaches him first.
“A family source close to Arsenal star Ethan Nwaneri tells me that the youngster will honour whichever country—Nigeria or England—approaches him first. What is the NFF waiting for?” Oludare posted on X.
Despite already featuring for England’s youth teams, Nwaneri’s senior international future remains undecided. If Nigeria makes a move, he could follow in the footsteps of stars like Alex Iwobi, Ademola Lookman, and Calvin Bassey, who all chose the Super Eagles over European nations.
Record-Breaking Season
Nwaneri has been making headlines with Arsenal this season, stepping up in the absence of Bukayo Saka. He recently became the third-youngest player to score in a Champions League knockout stage match after netting in Arsenal’s 7-1 thrashing of PSV Eindhoven.
With eight goals in 27 games this season, Nwaneri has shown he’s a future superstar — now the big question is: Will Nigeria or England win the race for his loyalty?
Should the NFF act fast and secure Nwaneri for the Super Eagles?
