Super Eagles and Nottingham Forest defender, Ola Aina, has weighed in on the ongoing debate about Nigeria’s top Afrobeats artists.
During a recent episode of ‘The Inside Scope’ podcast, Aina was asked to list his top four Afrobeats stars, and he named:
1. Burna Boy
2. Wizkid
3. Davido
4. Asake
Explaining his choices, the footballer said:
“Burna Boy is number 1 because whatever he drops is going to bang. So that’s why he’s number 1. It may be a little bit biased, but he’s there.”
On Wizkid, he acknowledged the star’s legendary status but felt his recent work had been overtaken:
“Wizkid would have been first, but I think that would have just been the nostalgia kicking in because lately, he has been overtaken.”
For Davido, Aina credited his consistency in dropping hits:
“Davido is third because he drops a lot of songs, so definitely, there would be a few bangers.”
Lastly, he ranked Asake fourth, citing his newness in the industry, but expressed confidence that he would rise to the top in the coming years:
“Asake is only last in the group because he’s fairly new. He makes hits. In a few years, he will be at the top.”
Aina’s ranking has added to the ongoing debate among fans about who truly reigns supreme in Afrobeats.
