Marvel Studios, are you listening? Grammy-winning artist SZA is ready to take Hollywood by storm — literally! The singer has made it clear that she dreams of portraying Storm, the powerful mutant queen of weather, in a Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) origin film.
Appearing on The Jennifer Hudson Show, SZA lit up when the conversation turned to her future in acting. When Hudson suggested she’d be perfect for a superhero role, the “Snooze” singer didn’t hesitate to pitch herself for the role of Ororo Munroe, Marvel’s fierce and fearless weather-controlling hero.
“You know how Storm has an origin story? Like she comes from this whole other place where it’s like the jungle,” SZA said excitedly. “I think that would be so gnarly if I could be Storm. I love to bring the range.”
A Comic Book Childhood
SZA’s superhero dreams are no passing whim — they’re part of her DNA. The artist, whose father is an avid comic book collector, grew up surrounded by first-edition Marvel classics, including comics featuring Thor and the enigmatic Silver Surfer, one of her personal favorites.
“My dad collects first-edition comics,” she shared. “So I grew up super into Marvel and DC.”
With Halle Berry and Alexandra Shipp having previously brought Storm to life in the X-Menfranchise, SZA’s desire to step into the legendary character’s boots has sparked excitement among fans. Could a Storm origin story be on the horizon?
SZA’s Budding Acting Career
While best known for her soulful voice and chart-topping hits, SZA has also started flexing her acting chops. She recently starred alongside Keke Palmer in the upcoming buddy comedy One of Them Days and showcased her acting flair in a hilarious State Farm Super Bowl commercial as Catwoman.
And let’s not forget her previous brush with the MCU — SZA and Kendrick Lamar’s emotional anthem “All the Stars” was a key track on the Black Panther soundtrack, earning critical acclaim and further cementing her Marvel connection.
Fans Manifesting Marvel Magic
Fans are already rallying behind the idea of SZA as Storm, praising her commanding presence and natural charisma. With Marvel boss Kevin Feige reportedly eyeing new narratives post-Avengers: Endgame, a Storm solo film could be the perfect addition.
Whether it’s harnessing lightning or commanding the winds, SZA’s vision for an epic Storm origin story has the potential to electrify audiences and redefine the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
