Nigerian travel content creator Alma Asinobi is on the brink of making history as she attempts to set a Guinness World Record for the fastest journey across all seven continents in just 60 hours. Having successfully traversed six continents, she is now gearing up for the final leg of her ambitious quest.
The 26-year-old began her record-breaking attempt on March 20 from King George Island, Antarctica, initiating the countdown. Her goal is to break the current record of 73 hours, held by Sujoy Kumar Mitra and Dr. Ali Irani. Alma is achieving this feat using only her Nigerian passport, which has introduced numerous challenges due to visa restrictions, costly travel arrangements, and flight cancellations.
Documenting Her Journey
Alma has been sharing her experience on her Instagram page, providing her followers with real-time updates and reflections. Through her candid posts, she has expressed both her determination and the frustrations she has faced. One major setback occurred when she encountered visa issues that prevented her from boarding a flight to Australia for her final continent. Despite the disappointment, she remained committed, ultimately rebooking a flight to Sydney.
In her heartfelt message, Alma revealed her resilience, saying:
“Even if I don’t break the record, I just want to finish what I started. I want to prove that limitations are not denials.”
She also spoke out about the challenges Nigerian passport holders face, lamenting the restricted access and constant scrutiny she endured.
“The things I missed, the routes I couldn’t take, the extra checks I was subjected to, the delays I experienced — all because of my passport. Me and my passport have seen ‘shege promax’ in the last 52+ hours.”
Overcoming Setbacks
At one point, Alma’s plans to return to Nigeria during her African leg were derailed due to passport issues. She instead traveled to Cairo, Egypt, and remained optimistic despite the disruption. She described how she transformed setbacks into opportunities, stating:
“When life hands you lemons, you turn them into lemonade and make the best of it.”
Her unwavering spirit has resonated with her supporters, with many celebrating her determination to challenge stereotypes and bring global attention to the struggles of individuals from countries with low-mobility passports.
A Mission Beyond Records
For Alma, the journey is about more than just setting a world record. She hopes her attempt will spark conversations about passport privilege and visa accessibility. She believes that by completing this journey, she can advocate for change and inspire other Nigerians to dream beyond restrictions.

“I just wanted to help someone out there with a low-mobility passport like mine, dream beyond all the restrictions. I want the dreams of my people to soar, unrestricted by the color of their passport.”
As she nears her final destination in Sydney, the world watches with anticipation. Regardless of the outcome, Alma Asinobi has already made a powerful statement about resilience, representation, and the pursuit of bold dreams.
Stay tuned for updates on her historic journey.
