Phenom Declares MI Abaga Untouchable in Nigerian Rap Comparisons

Nigerian rapper Phenom has firmly dismissed the frequent comparisons between rap legend MI Abaga and other Nigerian rappers.

Reacting to a post by a hip-hop blog that pitted MI against Vector in a “most hits” debate, Phenom asserted that no Nigerian rapper should be compared to the hip-hop icon.

In a follow-up statement, Phenom clarified that if any rapper could stand alongside MI in terms of hit songs, it would be Ice Prince, MI’s fellow former Chocolate City signee. Ice Prince, known for chart-toppers like “Oleku” and “Superstar”, remains one of the most commercially successful Nigerian rappers.

Phenom’s remarks have sparked debate among fans and hip-hop enthusiasts. While opinions on the “greatest” are often divisive, MI Abaga’s contribution to Nigerian rap is widely acknowledged. With an extensive discography that includes iconic tracks like “Action Film” featuring Brymo, “Anoti” featuring Gabriel, and the emotional anthem “One Naira” featuring Waje, MI has cemented his legacy.

The conversation also highlights the immense respect MI commands in the Nigerian music scene. Having consistently pushed the boundaries of African rap, the multiple award-winning artist remains a benchmark for lyrical prowess and storytelling.

As debates on rap supremacy continue, Phenom’s perspective serves as a reminder of MI Abaga’s lasting influence on Nigerian hip-hop.
