Nigerian Afrobeats star Ruger is opening up about his early days in the industry — and the surprising way he spent his very first paycheck.
In a candid interview with VJ Adams, the Asiwaju crooner revealed that his first-ever music paymentwas ₦500,000, and instead of splurging, he gave the entire amount to his church.
“I didn’t use it,” Ruger said. “I gave everything to the church. And the next payment was like a million — I was so happy, buying parfaits and stuff. Then more millions came within a year.”
The singer, who has quickly risen to the top of Nigeria’s music scene with hits and a signature eye patch look, also reflected on how money has impacted his mindset and life choices.
“Money changes everybody, don’t mind what others say,” Ruger stated. “A lot of things change when you start making money. The way you address things and approach life becomes different.”
He went further to talk about his long-term vision — the kind of wealth that brings peace, power, and privacy.
“Some people are so rich they don’t stress at all. That’s the point I want to get to. You see Jay Z? No matter how many times he’s called out, he never speaks. That’s the kind of money I want.”
Ruger’s humility, drive, and honesty about fame and fortune have struck a chord with fans online. The video clip from the interview is already making waves on social media, with many praising his spiritual values and ambitions.
With more chart-topping records under his belt and global recognition growing, Ruger seems well on his way to achieving that quiet, powerful kind of success he dreams of.
