Michael Jackson’s Stage-Worn Sock from 1997 Concert Sells for Over $8,000 at Auction

A stage-worn sock once belonging to the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, has been sold for more than $8,000 at a French auction, highlighting the enduring value of the late icon’s memorabilia.

The white athletic sock, decorated with rhinestones, was worn during Jackson’s 1997 concert in Nîmes, France, part of his legendary HIStory World Tour. According to reports, the sock was discovered by a technician near his dressing room after the show and had remained in private hands until now.

Though now aged and stained, the sock is still a prized collectible — especially for fans who remember Jackson’s signature Billie Jean performances, where his iconic moonwalk was often showcased while wearing glittering socks just like this one.

French auctioneer Aurore Illy called the item “a cult object”, reflecting how strongly Jackson’s performance legacy continues to resonate with global fans and collectors.

This isn’t the first time Michael Jackson memorabilia has fetched high prices. In 2009, shortly after his passing, a Macau resort paid $350,000 for the sequined glove Jackson wore during his first televised moonwalk. And in 2023, one of his performance hats sold for more than $80,000 in Paris.

Jackson, who died in 2009 at age 50 from a drug overdose, remains a towering figure in pop music. While his legacy has faced controversy, items from his career continue to spark intense interest — and hefty price tags — around the world.
