Josh Brolin is singing praises about his time on the set of Weapons, describing the shoot as one of the most “communal” and rewarding filmmaking experiences he’s had in years.
The 57-year-old Hollywood star joins a powerhouse cast that includes Julia Garner, Cary Christopher, Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Benedict Wong, and Amy Madigan in the much-anticipated horror thriller. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Brolin shared that the atmosphere on set was nothing short of special. “Everybody was great on this movie, man,” he said. “It was just one of those communal experiences that you hope to always have when you’re working.”
Brolin, who is no stranger to big productions, admitted he was a bit nervous before meeting co-star Julia Garner, despite hearing rave things about her. “People kept saying, ‘You guys are going to love each other and it’s going to be great,’ and I got nervous… What if it’s not great?” But the moment they met, everything clicked. “We just hit it off immediately. Like immediate cellular, sibling s***.”
The admiration was mutual. Julia, 31, called Brolin “amazing” and confessed he’s one of her favorite actors. “We spent every day giggling and laughing,” she said. “Getting to meet him was incredible, and then working with him was incredible because of who he is as a person. He’s so present as an actor.”
Josh also spoke fondly of reuniting with Amy Madigan, whom he’s known for years. Her horror makeover on set even gave him a fright. “I’d come out of the [soundstage] and there she was with all this makeup on and it scared the s*** out of me. I’d want to stay away from her, but at the same time, it was Amy — and she’s so sweet.”
Despite his warm reflections, Brolin has often described acting as a “love-hate” journey. In a past interview with Forbes, he confessed, “Acting to me was, I don’t know – playing characters was probably the most fun that I had in really losing yourself in a character.” He cited films like Milk, W., Everest, and Only the Brave as some of his most transformative roles.
With Weapons, it seems Brolin may have found that same spark again — surrounded by talent, chemistry, and the kind of creative magic that makes a film unforgettable.
