Keke Palmer is getting candid about filming intimate scenes with Pete Davidson in their upcoming heist comedy The Pickup — and according to her, it was all laughs, comfort, and chemistry.
The 31-year-old actress stars alongside the former Saturday Night Live funnyman and comedy legend Eddie Murphy in the new film. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Keke revealed that shooting steamy scenes with Pete wasn’t awkward at all. In fact, it was surprisingly relaxed.
“He’s so sweet, so it was comfortable even though we were being all naked and stuff like that,” she shared. “But it was in the first week of shooting — I think it might’ve been the second day or so. So we were just kind of like, ‘Hey, this is exciting. Have you met Eddie yet? Have you met Eddie yet?’”
Palmer, who’s never been one to shy away from bold roles, praised the natural chemistry she and Pete shared on screen. “Look, I don’t know anybody that Pete don’t have chemistry with,” she joked. “I mean, he’s pretty well-liked in the female world.”
The Nope and Hustlers star also highlighted how their shared sense of humor made their scenes even more enjoyable. “We are two people that don’t really take ourselves seriously,” she explained. “My character’s probably a little bit more serious than I present, and I think that made it fun for us to play with — to lean into that kind of awkward romance, which I think we need more of. Not serious romance. Let’s get back into the humorous romance.”
And while Eddie Murphy was clearly a major presence on set, Keke admitted she tried to keep things cool and professional around the comedy icon. “It was kind of like being on set with the wise sage,” she said. “Me and Pete talked about that all the time — you want to know so much and could spend every day interviewing him. But you also want to be respectful of the fact that this isn’t an interview — this is his job and we’re at work.”
The Pickup promises action, laughs, and just enough romance to spice things up — and with a cast like this, fans are already counting down the days.
