Denmark’s controversial “Big Mermaid” statue, criticized as “ugly and pornographic,” will be permanently removed after being relocated twice since 2006.
Other removed statues include slave trader Edward Colston’s statue toppled by protesters in Bristol in 2020, and Cristiano Ronaldo’s unflattering bronze bust in Madeira replaced within a year due to ridicule.

Recent thefts include Melania Trump’s bronze statue sawn off in Slovenia and stolen Paddington Bear statues in England. These removals reflect changing societal values about public monuments and historical memory.
