The buzz around Zach Cregger DCU script has been heating up but the Strangers director just set the record straight. Despite the fan theories and headline-grabbing claims, the Gotham-set project he once penned isn’t a Joker and Harley Quinn story and he hasn’t even spoken to DC Studios’ James Gunn about it.
Cregger confirmed he wrote a unique Gotham-flavored script titled Henchmen, focusing on a low-level criminal who accidentally gains fame after an unlikely run-in with Batman. While Batman, Joker, and Harley Quinn might appear, they’re not the lead characters.
“This is getting blown out of proportion online … It’s not a Joker and Harley Quinn script … I’ve not talked to James Gunn about it.”
That lines up with multiple reports over recent months rumors suggesting characters like Joker and Harley were central were flat-out wrong.
For now, Resident Evil takes priority his upcoming reboot is currently filming and expected in 2026. After that, he’s got a sci-fi project calling his name. As for Henchmen, it’s a passion piece he loves but it’s not on DC Studios’ radar just yet.
