Star Wars actor Adam Driver has revealed that a standalone film centered on his character, Ben Solo, was ultimately rejected by Disney executives. The unmade film, titled The Hunt for Ben Solo, was developed by Driver and acclaimed director Steven Soderbergh. Driver called the script, which would have been a direct sequel to the Skywalker Saga, “one of the coolest” he had ever been a part of, expressing his enthusiasm for the story.
The project aimed to deliver a long-awaited redemption arc for the character after his sacrifice in The Rise of Skywalker. The script, penned by Scott Z. Burns, was reportedly loved by Lucasfilm executives like Kathleen Kennedy, who understood its unique, character-driven approach. However, the fate of the Adam Driver rejected Star Wars film was decided at the very top of the Disney hierarchy.
Driver stated that he and Soderbergh presented the concept to CEO Bob Iger and co-chairman Alan Bergman. Disney’s key objection lay in a literal reading of the source material. Executives flatly rejected the proposal because they “didn’t see how Ben Solo was alive” after his dramatic ending in the final sequel film.
The revelation of the Adam Driver rejected Star Wars script comes as a disappointment to fans hoping for a definitive return for Kylo Ren. Though the character remains off-limits for now, Driver, who loved playing the role, confirmed he is open to a return with a “great director and a great story.”
