Ruby Whitehorn, senior guard for Tennessee women’s basketball, was dismissed from the team after her second arrest in less than three months. The Detroit native was first arrested in August for felony aggravated burglary and domestic assault.
Her second arrest involved misdemeanor possession of marijuana, leading to her removal from the program.Whitehorn had initially been suspended following the August incident, where she forcefully entered a woman’s home claiming to retrieve her belongings.
She pleaded guilty to lesser misdemeanors and was allowed to rejoin the Lady Vols. However, after the recent arrest on campus for marijuana possession, head coach Kim Caldwell announced her dismissal, emphasizing the importance of upholding the program’s standards.
The coach expressed concern for Whitehorn but prioritized the team’s reputation. Whitehorn’s basketball career at Tennessee included a starting position and contributing to a Sweet 16 appearance. Going forward, the program aims to maintain its high standards without her participation.
