Acclaimed actor Damson Idris is adding a prestigious honor to his growing list of accolades, as the British-Nigerian star will receive the Supporting Actor Award Film at the Critics Choice Association’s 8th Annual Celebration of Black Cinema & Television. Idris is being recognized for his compelling performance in the global box office hit, F1: The Movie, which has broken records as the highest-grossing auto racing film and Apple Studios’ most successful movie release to date.
The recognition solidifies Idris’s transition from television powerhouse following his acclaimed lead role as Franklin Saint in FX’s Snowfall to a leading man in Hollywood cinema. His award will be presented at the celebratory event on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, in Los Angeles, recognizing outstanding achievements from across the Black entertainment community.
The Damson Idris Critics Choice F1 award places him alongside a distinguished list of 2025 honorees. These include industry titans such as Spike Lee, who will receive the Career Achievement Award, and director Ryan Coogler, who will be honored for his work on the film Sinners. Other major recipients include actors Sterling K. Brown and Tessa Thompson, highlighting the event’s stature as a premier celebration of Black talent.
The awards ceremony, which will be hosted once again by comedian Jay Pharoah, will air exclusively on STARZ in early 2026. The Damson Idris Critics Choice F1 honor not only celebrates his individual talent but reaffirms his standing as one of the most compelling and influential actors of his generation.
