Rob Edwards Wolves Manager Deal Imminent After Middlesbrough Permission

Wolverhampton Wanderers are on the brink of appointing their new head coach, with Rob Edwards expected to take the role within the next 48 hours. The Premier League club has received permission from Middlesbrough to hold formal talks with Edwards, who has been stood down from his duties with the Championship side. Edwards is now the top target to succeed Vítor Pereira, who was sacked last week after the club’s disappointing, winless start to the season.

The Rob Edwards Wolves Manager appointment signals a return to Molineux for the 42-year-old. Edwards is a familiar face at Wolves, where he previously spent four years as a player, worked in the academy, and served a brief spell as caretaker manager in 2016. He recently guided Middlesbrough to third place in the Championship, impressing the Wolves hierarchy, who have long held an interest in the Welsh tactician.

Middlesbrough initially rejected Wolves’ approach for Edwards, who only signed a three-year contract in June 2025. However, after discussions, the Championship club reluctantly granted permission for talks after learning of Edwards’ desire to speak with the Premier League side. This move comes after another leading candidate, former Wolves boss Gary O’Neil, withdrew from advanced negotiations earlier this week.

The imminent appointment of Rob Edwards Wolves Manager is expected to trigger a significant shake-up at the club. Edwards is reportedly keen to bring in former Wolves figures, including former defender Joleon Lescott, to his new backroom staff. The finalization of the deal will bring an end to Wolves’ search for a new head coach as they desperately fight to climb out of the Premier League relegation zone.
