Burna Boy 5th Grammy Album Nomination Sets Historic Nigerian Record

Nigerian music star Burna Boy has achieved a historic milestone at the 2026 Grammy Awards, officially becoming the first Nigerian artiste to earn five career Grammy nominations in album categories. His latest project, No Sign of Weakness (2025), secured a nomination for Best Global Music Album when the nominees were announced today. This consistent recognition cements his status as the most-nominated African musician in the award’s history.

The Burna Boy 5th Grammy Album nomination follows a remarkable run of four previous nods for his albums, beginning with African Giant (2019) and including Twice As Tall (2020), which secured him his first win. The consistent placement of his major projects Love, Damini (2022) and I Told Them (2023) in the Grammy album categories underscores his enduring impact on the global music stage and the rise of Afrobeats.

In addition to the album recognition, Burna Boy also received a nomination in the Best African Music Performance category for his hit single “Love.” With two new nods this year, his total career Grammy nominations now stand at a staggering 13. He leads a field of strong Nigerian competitors, including Davido, Wizkid, and Ayra Starr, who also received nominations in various categories.

The Burna Boy 5th Grammy Album milestone reflects the Afrobeats superstar’s continuous dominance and the genre’s powerful global influence. He is set to compete against veteran global icons like Youssou N’Dour and Shakti for the Best Global Music Album prize at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony on February 1, 2026, in Los Angeles.
