Paystack Fires Co-Founder Ezra Olubi Amid Misconduct Allegations

Nigerian fintech giant Paystack has terminated the employment of its co-founder and Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Ezra Olubi. The decision to fire Olubi, who co-founded the company in 2015, was confirmed by the executive himself in a blog post on Saturday, November 22, 2025.

Olubi’s dismissal follows a public suspension announced on November 14, which was prompted by the viral resurfacing of his explicit and inappropriate tweets dating back to 2009–2013, as well as allegations of sexual misconduct involving a subordinate.

In his statement, Olubi argued that he was fired before the internal investigation was concluded and without being given an opportunity to respond to the allegations, claiming the process violated the terms of his suspension and company policy. He stated his legal team is reviewing the circumstances. Paystack has not issued an updated public statement following his post.

Olubi’s termination marks one of the most high-profile governance crises in Nigeria’s tech ecosystem since the company was acquired by Stripe in 2020.
