A new Star Wars series is set to debut on Disney+ in just over a month. Star Wars: Skeleton Crew will premiere on December 3, and the recently released trailer highlights the show’s nostalgic, Spielberg-esque style.
This live-action series is set in the same timeline as The Mandalorian and Ahsoka, taking place roughly ten years after Return of the Jedi. While details about the plot remain limited, it follows a group of suburban kids who discover a spaceship and embark on a thrilling adventure.
The show has drawn comparisons to classic 1980s films, often described as “Goonies in space,” or more contemporarily, “Stranger Things in space.” This homage to Steven Spielberg and Amblin Entertainment captures the essence of kid-friendly adventures from that era.
One intriguing aspect of the trailer is its portrayal of everyday life in the Star Wars universe. Scenes depict settled planets, likely core worlds like Coruscant, complete with suburban neighborhoods, schools, and ordinary citizens going about their daily routines—offering a rare glimpse into how regular people navigate life in a galaxy far, far away.
Skeleton Crew is directed by Jon Watts and Christopher Ford, known for their work on the recent Spider-Man films. The cast mainly features fresh talent, including an elephant alien character that may have ties to Max Rebo from Return of the Jedi. Jude Law also stars, presumably playing a Jedi, though details about his character remain under wraps.
With its blend of adventure and relatable storytelling, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew promises to be an exciting addition to the franchise when it hits Disney+ next month.
