Legendary midfielder Toni Kroos has dropped a tantalizing hint about a potential return to Real Madrid, the club where he spent a decade and cemented his status as one of football’s all-time greats. Although Kroos retired from professional football last summer, his bond with the Spanish giants remains unshakable.
The German maestro ended his illustrious career on a high, with his final game being a Champions League triumph over Borussia Dortmund at Wembley—a fitting farewell for a player who claimed five Champions League titles among 22 major trophies during his Madrid tenure.
Now 34, Kroos revealed on his podcast Einfach mal Luppen, co-hosted with his brother Felix, that a future role at Real Madrid isn’t off the table.
Given my closeness to Madrid and the relationship I have with the club, I’d never rule out doing something there in the future
he teased.
Kroos, who famously hand-washed his boots throughout his career, emphasized his unwavering loyalty to Real Madrid. “The meaning of Real will always be the same for me,” he said.
It was a long, great, successful, and loving time with the club. I will always defend Real and be on their side. That will never change.
Even Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti hasn’t given up hope of seeing Kroos back in white. At the end of last season, Ancelotti extended an open invitation, quipping, “We are waiting for you to change your mind.”
While Kroos has ruled out any immediate involvement with the club, he left the door ajar for the future. “To appear now in the public environment of the club? No, not yet,” he admitted. “But I can’t say I won’t have anything to do with Real again in my life. The relationship is simply too close.”
For now, Kroos is enjoying retirement, but fans can rest assured that his story with Real Madrid might not be entirely over. With his enduring love for the club and undeniable influence on its legacy, the prospect of a Kroos comeback—whether on or off the pitch—is a tantalizing possibility.
