Controversial Nigerian singer Darlington Okoye, better known as Speed Darlington, has been granted bail by an Abuja court following significant public and legal pressure.
The development comes after the Nigeria Police Force arraigned the singer in court. Sharing the news on X (formerly Twitter), Darlington’s lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, stated:
“Police finally arraigns Speed Darlington in court. Bail application moved and granted. We are trying to perfect same.”
Details of the bail conditions remain undisclosed at this time.
Speed Darlington’s legal troubles began after he accused Grammy-winning singer Burna Boy of having an amoral relationship with Sean “Diddy” Combs, sparking controversy. His arrest led him to petition Deputy Inspector General of Police Dasuki Galadanchi, urging compliance with a court order against his prolonged detention.
Justice M.S. Liman had previously directed the police to either charge Speed Darlington in court or release him unconditionally within 48 hours, an order issued on December 23, 2024.
