Leonardo DiCaprio credits his mother for his successful career.
The
‘Wolf of Wall Street’ star was honoured with a Golden Globe award last
night and he believes his mum Irmelin – who divorced his father George
DiCaprio when he was just a year old – is the reason why because she
encouraged him to pursue his dreams as an actor at a young age.
Speaking
backstage after the event, Leonardo told ‘Access Hollywood’: “I
wouldn’t be doing any of this if it weren’t for her, both my parents.
“She
supported this little kid who said, ‘I want to be an actor,’ at 12
years old, which is ridiculous, and she drove me to all these auditions.
She’s the only reason I’m able to do what I do.”
The 39-year-old
actor – who is often romantically linked to a string of supermodels –
is reportedly dating model Kat Torres, but he insists his mum doesn’t
get involved in his love life.
When asked if she wants him to get married, he replied: “It’s irrelevant to her what I do.”
At the awards, host Tina Fey mocked his dating habits with a raunchy joke but Leonardo saw the funny side.
He said: “”That was pretty cool. Any joke from them is OK in my book.”
