Billy Porter Eyes Fashion and Beauty Empire with Bold New Brand ‘Black Mona Lisa’

18 July 2025 – Award-winning actor and singer Billy Porter is stepping into mogul territory with the launch of his very own makeup and skincare line, Black Mona Lisa — and he’s only just getting started.

At 55, the Broadway icon is determined to create a full-blown fashion and beauty empire under the Black Mona Lisa banner, a name inspired by his 2023 hit song. Speaking to WWD, Porter revealed that this move marks the beginning of a much bigger vision that includes clothing, footwear, and even cookware.

“Black Mona Lisa to me is ever-present. It’s classic forever and doesn’t go out of style. This is just Black Mona Lisa beyond the music,” he shared. “But I also want Black Mona Lisa clothes, shoes, and cookware.”

Makeup Without Rules

Porter’s product line already includes cleanser, serums, eye shimmers, and lipsticks, designed with a mission to empower users to express their true selves. He sees Black Mona Lisa not just as a brand, but as a movement rooted in freedom, fun, and authenticity.

“There are no rules,” Billy explained. “It’s freeing and it’s fun; it’s authentic. This is my authentic self, and I didn’t even know it. That’s what I want this brand to be. I want it to free people, and to be whatever they want to be.”

The Introvert Behind the Glam

While Porter may be known for his bold red carpet looks and powerhouse performances, he admits he’s more reserved in real life.

“You wouldn’t know it, but I’m an introvert,” he told Town and Country. “I know how to be an extrovert because my job requires it. But if you want to know the real me, I’m a home boy. I want to be with my friends.”

Porter, who recently starred in the West End revival of Cabaret, described his time living in London as a “healing” experience, praising the city’s fashion-forward culture and sex positivity.

“I love the people, the architecture… I love how art is still for everyone. I love the fashion here—it’s open and fun and not muted by masculine tropes.”

A New Kind of Beauty Brand

What sets Black Mona Lisa apart in a crowded beauty industry? According to Billy, it’s unapologetically inclusive and unbound by gender norms. He wants people of all identities to feel seen, valued, and expressive—something he says is missing from many mainstream brands.

As Porter puts it:
