Bryan Adams Says His UK Chart Record “Will Eventually Be Broken” — But He’s Not Worried

Legendary Canadian rocker Bryan Adams has reflected on his monumental chart feat, admitting that his record-breaking 16-week reign at the top of the UK Singles Chart with ”(Everything I Do) I Do It for You” will one day be surpassed — and he’s at peace with it.

The 65-year-old singer set the record in 1991, when his ballad from Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves dominated the charts for a staggering four months. Speaking to Classic Pop magazine, Bryan was philosophical about the legacy of the track.

“Oh, sure it can,” he said when asked if the record might fall. “There’s been people that are already close.”

Indeed, Drake nearly dethroned him in 2016 when “One Dance” held on for 15 weeks, just one short of Adams’ reign.

“Long May It Be So… But It Won’t Last Forever”

While proud of the song’s success, Adams keeps a grounded perspective:

“That is amazing and long may it be so, but the reality is something will eventually knock it off.”

Despite his humility, there’s no denying the impact of the track, which became a global phenomenon, topping charts across multiple continents.

Mutt Lange Knew It Was a Hit

Adams admits he didn’t expect the track to explode — but famed producer Robert ‘Mutt’ Lange certainly did.

“I had no idea, but I knew that Mutt did,” Adams said.

“He said, ‘This song really has an international melody,’ and those words stuck with me. He was so right. There wasn’t a country in the world that didn’t play that song.”

He credits both Lange and late composer Michael Kamen for shaping the track’s universal appeal:

“They’re the ones that were really the geniuses behind it.”

Roll With The Punches

 Drops Next Month

As he reflects on the past, Adams is also pushing forward. His upcoming album, Roll With The Punches, arrives next month, and he revealed that the title track was the creative catalyst.

“That becomes the cornerstone song for an album. You know it right away,” he said.

“Every album has one sort of signature track… and I thought, ‘Oh yeah, that’s the beginning of a record.’”

Adams describes his songwriting process as organic — one strong track often inspires the direction for the rest of the record.

Legacy Still Strong After Four Decades

More than 30 years after topping the charts, Bryan Adams continues to tour, record, and connect with fans around the world. Whether or not his chart record stands the test of time, his influence on rock music — and pop ballads — is firmly cemented.

“Records are made to be broken,” as the saying goes — but for now, Bryan Adams still reigns as the undisputed King of the UK Singles Chart.
