‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Boosts Franchise Past $2.6 Billion Globally Despite Lukewarm Box Office

Marvel’s latest installment, “Captain America: Brave New World”, has officially crossed a major milestone, pushing the Captain America franchise past the $2.6 billion mark at the global box office. However, the movie’s own performance has been relatively modest compared to previous entries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Starring Anthony Mackie as the new Captain America, the film faced a sluggish run, with box office numbers reflecting the ongoing challenges faced by the post-Endgame MCU. According to BoxOfficeReport.com, the film earned $383K on Monday across 2,900 North American locations, a 29% decline from the previous Monday. Its domestic gross now stands at $192.42 million, inching closer to the $200 million milestone.

During its sixth three-day weekend, Brave New World garnered $4 million in the U.S., despite losing 350 theaters and witnessing a 28.1% drop from the prior weekend. On the international front, it added $3.1 million over the same weekend, bringing its overseas total to $208.7 million. This pushed the global tally to $401.70 million.

While the movie has helped the Captain America series surpass the $2.6 billion mark, its own financial outlook is still uncertain. With a reported budget of $180 million, the film has barely broken even. Comparisons to the franchise’s previous successes, particularly “Captain America: Civil War”— which grossed over $1.1 billion — reveal the clear disparity in box office appeal.

The lukewarm reception could be attributed to overall audience fatigue with the MCU, as recent releases like “The Marvels” and “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” similarly underperformed. Despite this, “Brave New World” benefited from a lack of strong competition, especially as Disney’s “Snow White” faced a rough reception.

With Marvel fans still showing loyalty to the franchise, all eyes will be on the studio’s next moves to regain momentum. Stay tuned for more updates on the film’s progress and the future of the MCU.
