Chris Hemsworth Banned from Surfing 40-Foot Wave in New ‘Limitless’ Series Over Drowning Fears

Chris Hemsworth has revealed he was banned from attempting to surf a 40-foot wave while filming his upcoming series Limitless: Live Better Now due to safety concerns. The actor, known for his daring stunts and adventurous spirit, had originally planned to include the surfing challenge in the new season of his National Geographic show, but the risk assessment team shut it down over fears he could drown — especially with Marvel’s next Thor film on the horizon.

Instead, Hemsworth ended up scaling a towering 600-foot (200-meter) dam wall in the Swiss Alps — a stunt that was somehow deemed safer than the giant wave. He joked that although both activities carried serious risks, producers couldn’t afford to let him wipe out in the ocean before finishing his upcoming projects.

Aside from death-defying climbs, Hemsworth also took on a new kind of challenge: learning to play the drums in just two weeks to perform live on stage with Ed Sheeran in front of 70,000 fans. He admitted he underestimated how difficult it would be to juggle work, press tours, and family life with the intense practice required, and ended up scrambling at the last minute to prepare. Despite developing blisters from constant rehearsals, he pushed through and described the performance in Bucharest as “terrifying” but deeply moving.

The actor compared the moment to a spiritual experience, saying it felt like “universal prayer or meditation on a big global scale,” and he was grateful to have been part of it.

Limitless: Live Better Now premieres August 15 on Disney+ and Hulu, and airs August 25 on National Geographic.
