Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, “The Odyssey,” based on Homer’s Greek epic, is reportedly his most expensive film to date, with a budget confirmed to be around $250 million. This massive production cost rivals major superhero blockbusters and reflects Universal Pictures’ high confidence in the legendary director.
The film’s high price tag is attributed to its massive scale, multiple international filming locations, and Nolan’s signature commitment to shooting entirely on IMAX 70mm film cameras. The star-studded cast features Matt Damon as Odysseus, Tom Holland as Telemachus, and Anne Hathaway as Penelope.

The production is expected to showcase Nolan’s blend of practical effects and sweeping visuals as he tackles the fantastical elements of Greek mythology. This budget places the film on par with the reported cost of his 2012 hit The Dark Knight Rises.
Universal Pictures has scheduled the highly anticipated epic for a worldwide theatrical release on July 17, 2026. The huge Nolan The Odyssey Budget signals a grand cinematic vision for the adaptation of the ancient poem.
