Daniel Kaluuya Confirms Co-Writing Spider-Punk Animated Film, First Draft Nearing Completion

The electrifying fan-favorite Spider-Punk is officially getting his own animated film, with voice actor Daniel Kaluuya confirming he is actively involved in co-writing the highly anticipated spin-off. Kaluuya, who brought the rebellious Hobie Brown to life in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, revealed just days ago that he and co-writer Ajon Singh are now in the “finishing stages of the first draft” of the script.

The decision to greenlight a standalone Spider-Punk feature was directly influenced by the character’s explosive popularity. Hobie Brown’s unique punk rock aesthetic, anti-authoritarian attitude, and Kaluuya’s distinct voice performance resonated profoundly with audiences, establishing him as an instant breakout star from the Spider-Verse franchise. Producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller are reportedly offering creative guidance as Kaluuya develops the new project.

While specific plot details for the Spider-Punk film remain “TBD,” fans are eagerly anticipating how the animated feature will expand on the character’s backstory and his revolutionary spirit from Earth-138. The creative team is expected to maintain the visually inventive, mixed-media animation style that defined the Spider-Verse films, pushing boundaries in storytelling and visual execution.

Before his solo outing, Kaluuya will first reprise his role as Hobie Brown in the third installment of the main trilogy, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, which is currently scheduled for release on June 18, 2027. The development of a dedicated Spider-Punk film underscores the immense creative and commercial success of Sony Pictures Animation’s Spider-Verse universe.
