Dele Alli may have found a potential lifeline in Serie A, with Como sporting director Carlalberto Ludi revealing that Cesc Fabregas holds the ex-Tottenham star in high regard. Alli, currently a free agent, has faced an uphill battle since his promising career stalled due to injuries, but could his fortunes change in Italy?
The former England international has not played competitively since February 2023, following a difficult loan spell at Besiktas in Turkey. Now 28, Alli has been training with Everton while recovering from surgery and dealing with further fitness setbacks. Despite these challenges, he remains without a club after his contract with Everton expired in the summer of 2024.
Alli’s recent appearance in the stands at Como’s Serie A match against Roma, alongside Hollywood stars Keira Knightley and Michael Fassbender, fueled speculation that the midfielder could be offered an opportunity to train with the Italian club. Ludi has confirmed that while nothing is set in stone, the club is open to exploring the possibility: “In ideal conditions, he’s of interest to everyone. We have an excellent relationship with his agent, and something interesting could develop, but we can’t know for sure yet.”
The Como director also mentioned that Fabregas, now playing a key role at the club after guiding them to Serie A promotion last season, is particularly fond of Alli. “Fabregas likes him a lot,” Ludi added, hinting that the midfielder’s experience and leadership could be key in helping Dele regain his confidence and fitness.
For Dele Alli, this could be an opportunity to reignite his career, but it will depend on how he performs during the trial period in Italy. Fans are eager to see if the former Spurs star can prove his worth and earn a permanent deal in Serie A.
