Denrele Edun Reunites with Maternal Family in Mauritius, Shares Emotional Experience

Nigerian media personality Denrele Edun has shared a deeply emotional experience of meeting his maternal family in Mauritius for the first time. The heartfelt reunion brought together his 89-year-old grandmother, Dolly Atwaroo, as well as his uncle, cousins, niece, and nephew, marking a long-awaited moment of connection.

Denrele, known for his vibrant personality and trailblazing career, expressed nervous excitementahead of the meeting, unsure whether his family would make the two-hour journey to his resort. Thanks to his sister-in-law, Anishta Rampersad-Singh, who coordinated the gathering, the reunion became a reality.

An Emotional Family Moment

The highlight of the reunion was Denrele’s first-ever meeting with his grandmother, Dolly, a strict yet loving matriarch. Overcome with tears of joy, she embraced Denrele, making up for the lost years with deep emotional warmth.

Reflecting on the experience, Denrele described it as “therapeutic” and “life-changing”, emphasizing how meeting his grandmother strengthened his connection to his roots.

“My GrandMa didn’t stop crying as she had NEVER set her eyes on me. If you’re lucky, and I have been so very lucky, GRANDMA aka NANI is the ever-presence, the foundational and existential ubiquity of BEING.”

The reunion was also witnessed by close friends, including media entrepreneur Chude Jideonwo, who joined in celebrating the significant moment.
