Diddy Conviction Overturned Bid Made in Crucial Court Hearing
Attorneys for Sean “Diddy” Combs are pursuing a path to have the Diddy conviction overturned, asking a federal judge to dismiss the two Mann Act guilty verdicts or grant a new trial. Combs, who was convicted of transporting individuals for the purposes of prostitution in July, remains detained in New York City ahead of his October 3 sentencing date.
During the critical hearing, the defense team argued that the jury’s verdict which acquitted him of the more severe sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy charges serves as a strong indication of his innocence on the lesser counts. They formally submitted a request for a sentence of no more than 14 months, which would result in his immediate release based on time already served.
This legal maneuvering aims to challenge the interpretation of the Mann Act as applied in this case. Federal prosecutors, however, are opposing the defense’s motion and plan to recommend a sentence that will keep Combs imprisoned for several more years.
