Diego Luna is set to star in Eleven Days, an intense new hostage thriller that will see the Andor actor take on the role of a dangerous prisoner whose escape plan spirals into a brutal standoff.
Luna, 45, will portray Federico Carrasco, a cold and calculating inmate who seizes control of a Texas prison and holds dozens of people hostage when a failed breakout descends into chaos. He’ll star opposite Taylor Kitsch, who plays Jim Estelle, the head of the Texas Department of Corrections, forced into a tense and high-stakes negotiation with Carrasco over the course of 11 harrowing days.
The film will be directed by Peter Landesman, known for Concussion, and is based on the nonfiction book Eleven Days in Hell: The 1974 Carrasco Prison Siege at Huntsville, Texas by William T. Harper. Filming is set to begin this September in Texas.
The screenplay, originally written by Kevin Sheridan, has been revised by Landesman to capture the psychological warfare, desperation, and grit that marked one of the most notorious prison standoffs in U.S. history.

A New Chapter for Diego Luna
Coming off the success of Andor season 2, Luna’s return to intense, dramatic roles marks another powerful entry in his diverse career. While he’s beloved by Star Wars fans for his role as Cassian Andor, this upcoming performance promises to showcase his darker, more menacing side.
Luna has spoken fondly about working in the Star Wars universe, particularly how his children reacted to his role in Rogue One.
“I was the coolest dad when I told my kids I was doing that film,” he recalled.
“But then we die at the end… My son just looked at me, like, ‘But you died.’”
His time piloting spaceships in Rogue One even made him wish for bloopers.
“Every take I was like, ‘Oh please, I hope someone did something wrong, I want to go again,’” he said.
“It was the nicest thing. The cockpit moved, and the projection made it feel real. It’s as close to flying as you can get.”

What to Expect from Eleven Days
The real-life siege in Huntsville, Texas, in 1974 shocked the nation. It was a brutal 11-day standoff that ended in bloodshed after an escape attempt by Carrasco and his accomplices turned into a desperate hostage situation involving teachers, inmates, and law enforcement.
With Luna at the helm as the cold-blooded Carrasco and Kitsch portraying the emotionally burdened prison chief trying to keep order, Eleven Days is expected to deliver a tense, character-driven thriller grounded in real events and raw emotion.
This marks yet another gritty, complex role for Luna—and one that could put him in awards contention outside the galaxy far, far away.
