Burlesque queen Dita Von Teese is known for her timeless glamour, vintage elegance, and unmistakable stage presence—but behind that signature red lip and seductive strut lies a surprisingly simple philosophy: walk mindfully.
Speaking to HELLO! Magazine in a recent interview, the 54-year-old performer explained that being aware of her movements is about more than just style—it’s a lifestyle choice grounded in self-awareness and safety.
“I don’t walk around dancing down the street,” Dita said, “but I do think about my movements almost like a dance, being aware of my body and feeling grateful for how it carries me.”
She continued, adding with a wink:
“It’s not just about looking graceful—it’s also practical. I hear people say they got hurt because they were walking while staring at their phones. That’s when accidents happen. So I try to walk carefully, consciously. I don’t know if that’s exactly seductive, but I’d say it’s definitely the first step… no pun intended.”
Glamour, Grace & Charlotte Tilbury
Currently headlining her “Diamonds and Dust” show in London, Dita has once again teamed up with celebrity makeup guru Charlotte Tilbury to craft the dazzling looks that light up the stage. Their collaboration is also a personal reunion—Dita and Charlotte have known each other since the early 2000s.
“One of the memories that really stands out was when Moschino did a fashion show that felt completely like my world—fetish and pin-up,” Dita recalled. “Charlotte styled all the girls to look like me… I was like, ‘God, it looks amazing. How can they just go home and wash it off?’”
Now, years later, the two icons have rekindled their friendship in the city where it all began.
“Obviously, we’ve both been working our buns off for the past decade or so and she’s built this incredible make-up empire. It feels really special to reconnect in London.”
Dita’s Pre-Show Rituals: ‘Snooze-itation’ & Self-Care
Before hitting the stage, Dita prioritizes a moment of calm. Her go-to routine? A blend of meditation and power napping that she cheekily calls “snooze-itation.”
“It starts as a meditation but often turns into a little nap,” she said. “That’s usually what I do in my dressing room – just lie flat and unwind.”
She also incorporates a skincare gadget into her routine—the Celluma Pro, a light therapy device she places over her face to simulate sunlight.
“I pretend I’m lying in the sun while I meditate or snooze. It’s my favourite way to reset.”
The Takeaway
Whether it’s on stage in sequins or walking down the street in stilettos, Dita Von Teese lives with intention. Her graceful approach to movement, her enduring friendships, and her dedication to self-care prove that glamour isn’t just about how you look—it’s about how you carry yourself, both inside and out.
And in true Dita fashion, she reminds us that confidence can begin with a single, mindful step.
