Nigerian record producer and music executive, Michael Collins Ajereh, popularly known as Don Jazzy, has opened up about the inspiration behind his successful career in music production. Speaking on a recent episode of the On The Grind podcast, the Mavin Records boss revealed that his love for music drove him to pursue production.
Don Jazzy highlighted his proficiency in various musical instruments, especially the drums, stating, “I just went in [to production] and never looked back. I finished playing percussion, I moved to jazz drums. From the drum set, I moved to the bass guitar, and at some point, I started learning the piano.”
He humorously added that his passion for drumming is so deep that he could even drum while engaging in intimate moments, saying, “I literally drum all the time. I do it during sex. I can even drum on a woman’s buttocks if I get the inspiration for a beat at that time.”
Jazzy also recalled his early career, revealing that he once lived in the studio with fellow producers Altims and Baby Fresh for two years. His journey began in the UK, where he worked with JJC and the 419 Squad before co-founding Mo’ Hits Records with D’banj in 2004.
After the split of Mo’ Hits in 2012, Don Jazzy founded Mavin Records, where he continues to lead as CEO and head producer. His career also included a stint as an in-house producer for Kanye West’s GOOD Music from 2011 to 2013.
