Eddie Murphy Says Awards Don’t Drive Him — But He’ll Take That Oscar at 90

Eddie Murphy has nothing left to prove in Hollywood, but he admits an Oscar would still be a sweet cherry on top… even if it comes when he’s “old with no teeth.”

The 64-year-old Beverly Hills Cop and Shrek legend told Sky News that trophies aren’t what fuel him. For Eddie, the real reward is making movies people love — and the paychecks aren’t bad either. “When the movie has commercial success and people love it, that’s the trophy,” he said. “One day, they’ll give me an honorary Oscar when I’m 90, and I’ll say, ‘Thank you so much’… toothless and all.”

Murphy is back on screen in The Pickup, starring alongside Pete Davidson. The pair clicked instantly, bonding over their similar starts — both began stand-up young, joined SNL early, and tragically lost their fathers at a young age. “I love working with SNL alumni,” Eddie said. “There’s a kinship there.”

As for parenting tips for Pete, who’s expecting his first child with Elsie Hewitt? Eddie kept it simple: “You figure it out on your own. If you love your child, doing the right thing comes naturally.”
