Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Tems has opened up about her love-hate relationship with smartphones and her commitment to living in the moment. In an interview with Glamour Germany, where she recently graced the cover, the globally adored singer revealed her humorous disdain for smartphones, saying she seizes every opportunity to leave her phone behind.
I don’t like my smartphone anyway. I prefer to live in the world and have experiences. If I have even the smallest excuse to leave my phone in the drawer, I’ll take it every time.
Tems attributed her grounded nature to her close-knit family and management team, highlighting how her mother and brother play vital roles in keeping her balanced. She also emphasized the importance of staying present and self-aware, noting, “You have to manage to stay present, be aware of yourself, and take care of yourself. That is the only way you can grow, constantly learn new ways of looking at life, and reassess life. I wouldn’t change a single thing about my life.”
Reflecting on her career journey, the Me and You hitmaker admitted she was “naive” when she first entered the music industry, solely focused on creating good art. However, she has since learned to navigate the business side of music healthily.
Tems also shared a nugget of wisdom: “You won’t get far in the world if you don’t know who you are. That’s the most sustainable path through life—not just in music, but in any industry. I believe that your authentic self will attract people.”
With her soulful music, grounded mindset, and refreshing approach to life, Tems continues to inspire fans worldwide to embrace authenticity and live intentionally—one unplugged moment at a time.
