Her attention seeking antics are
legendary so fans waited with baited breath to see what Miley Cyrus had
in store for her MTV Unplugged special.
Following
in the footsteps of luminaries including Sir Paul McCartney, Nirvana
and Oasis, the 21-year-old twerking pop star had a lot to prove for her
own show and she passed the test with flying colours.
While
she put her own spin on the popular series, twerking against a
pantomime horse, sticking her tongue out and stripping down to just a
bra, Miley – who closed out the show with a duet with Madonna – showed
what is often overlooked because of her racy behaviour, that she has a
fantastic voice.
But for
Miley one of the highlights was spanking her idol, as she tweeted: ‘I
SPANKED @Madonna (hard) (& she liked it) (sic).’

‘So, it sounds super lame, but as a pop star it’s pretty cool performing with Madonna,’ Miley said.
The delighted star also took to Twitter to ask her fans for their opinion.
And Miley was clearly desperate to see how she had done, asking them to send her on all of her performances.
While spanking Madonna may have been her own personal hightlight, there was plenty to enjoy in Miley’s show.

The gig, which taped on
Tuesday and aired in the US on Wednesday, opened with Miley taking to
the stage in a red and white gingham jumpsuit and a blonde wig as she
performed 4×4.
She told the
crowd, ‘I tried to bring Nashville here for the night’ and sang with an
exaggerated southern twang for the first song.
Highlights
of the night included Do My Thang, Wrecking Ball, #Getitright and
Rooting For My Baby. Drive and Adore You were favourites while Bangerz
(SMS) worked surprisingly well in its stripped down format.

Afterwards, Miley said: ‘That was pretty f***ing cool you guys.
It was one of those days that was pretty easy to get out of bed.
‘I get to perform with Madonna in bedazzled cowboy boots. I can’t really complain about anything.’

Earlier in the evening,
the 21-year-old star joked MTV had been ‘brave’ in giving her the show,
which saw her backed by a full band including string section.
She said: ‘I can’t believe you let me of all people do an Unplugged. That was brave.’
Miley also shared a number of jokes with her audience, at one point claiming she was headed to a strip club after the show.

And the Bangerz star – who split from fiancé Liam Hemsworth last year – also found the time to get serious.

knows what it’s like to feel their life crumbling down.’

It’s not the first time Madonna has worked with pop stars much younger than herself.
