The Indiana Fever have officially named Stephanie White as their new head coach, marking a homecoming for White, who brings both familiarity and a winning pedigree to the franchise. White, who served as head coach for the Connecticut Sun over the past two seasons, joins a Fever team built around two rising stars: WNBA sensation Caitlin Clark and last year’s No. 1 draft pick, Aliyah Boston.
Stephanie is part of the fabric of this franchise,” said Kelly Krauskopf, the Fever’s president of basketball operations. “As a former player and member of our championship coaching staff, she knows our culture and has the basketball IQ and leadership style to lead our players to the next level.”
White is no stranger to Indiana or to the Fever. Born and raised in Indiana and a former star at Purdue, she played on the Fever’s inaugural 2000 roster and later joined the team’s coaching staff from 2011 to 2016, including a two-year stint as head coach. Her previous WNBA head coaching experience also includes leading the Sun to back-to-back semifinal appearances and winning Coach of the Year in 2023.
As the Fever gear up for a promising future with a young core, White expressed her excitement:
I am incredibly proud to return home to Indiana and lead the Fever at this pivotal time,” she said. “This franchise has always been committed to winning, and I look forward to helping bring another WNBA title to the greatest basketball fans in the world.”
This new era for the Fever follows major organizational changes, with Krauskopf taking over as president in September and Amber Cox joining as COO and GM. The Fever’s roster is headlined by the electrifying Caitlin Clark, who led the WNBA in attendance and viewership as a 2024 Rookie of the Year and All-WNBA First Team selection. Clark, alongside Boston and standout guard Kelsey Mitchell, gives White a powerful mix of talent to lead into the next season.
White shared that she’s been tracking Clark’s career since her high school days and recently connected with her. “I spoke with Caitlin, and she’s all about the game and winning. It’s an exciting time to work with her and this young team as we take our next steps,” said White.
As the Fever aim for their first championship since 2012, White’s return to Indiana has fans and the organization hopeful for what’s ahead.
