James Gunn Confirms Kite Man Survived Peacemaker Season 1 — And Could Return to the DCU

DC fans, rejoice — Kite Man is still in the game!

James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios, just revealed that the quirky Peacemaker villain didn’t meet his end in Season 1. In fact, the door is wide open for his return, possibly even in the rebooted DC Universe.

During the latest episode of Peacemaker: The Official Podcast, a fan asked Gunn if Kite Man was canon in the new DCU. Gunn addressed the Season 1 gag where a newspaper clipping claimed that Peacemaker “took down” Kite Man. His response? “I don’t think that means permanently… I think he just got him, and he’s in prison now. So, he’s still fine. We could see Kite Man, sure.”

For those new to the character, Kite Man is a classic DC Comics supervillain who first appeared in Batman #133 back in 1960, known for his kite-themed gadgets and high-flying criminal antics. Despite never making a live-action debut, Gunn’s comment suggests we might see him soon.

The timing couldn’t be better — Peacemaker Season 2 drops Thursday, August 21, following the critical success of its debut season. John Cena’s Christopher Smith, last seen in a cameo in Superman, returns to face new challenges. Speaking at SDCC, Gunn teased that this season will dig deeper into Peacemaker’s emotional struggles: “He’s dealing with the demons he uncovered from the first season, and the world is not accepting him as a hero.”

With Superman kicking off the next phase of the DCU and Peacemaker returning in days, fans might just get a surprise Kite Man comeback. After all, in Gunn’s universe… no villain ever really flies away for good
