Jarvis Cocker BBC 6 Music Return with ‘Sleeping Forecast’

Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker is set to make his highly anticipated Jarvis Cocker BBC 6 Music return this weekend, presenting a special new episode of the late-night programme, The Sleeping Forecast. This unique radio venture is intended to offer listeners a “portal” to rest, blending relaxing musical selections with an iconic feature of British radio.

The hour-long programme will feature sleep-inducing tracks personally chosen by Cocker, including ambient music from artists like Brian Eno and minimalist composer Arvo Pärt. These soothing songs will be mixed with segments of the legendary BBC Radio 4 Shipping Forecast. The format builds on a recorded episode previously featured at the Crossed Wires Podcast Festival.

Cocker revealed that he “always used to use the Shipping Forecast to help me fall asleep,” noting he is excited to bring his own selection to the airwaves. He views the music as helping listeners “access a new dimension,” the dimension of slumber. This marks one of the most unique broadcasts since the star left his regular Sunday Service show in 2017.

The show will be available to stream on BBC Sounds starting Thursday, October 23, at 9 pm. The official broadcast on the airwaves for Jarvis Cocker BBC 6 Music fans will follow on Sunday, October 26, from midnight until 2 am, concluding the station’s Slow Sunday programming slate.
