Jessie J Stops Pain Medication After Breast Cancer Surgery, Says She’s “Positive and Grateful” Amid Recovery

Pop star Jessie J is embracing recovery with courage and honesty following her recent breast cancer surgery. The 37-year-old Price Tag singer revealed she has stopped taking pain medication just 12 days post-op, saying it’s “not my thing”, and she prefers to feel what her body is going through to avoid overexerting herself.

“I’m Doing Good, But I Miss Being an Active Mum”

In an emotional Instagram Story update shared on Tuesday (July 1), Jessie opened up about the physical and emotional toll of recovery while being away from her two-year-old son, Sky, whom she shares with basketball player Chanan Colman.

“Missing being an active Mum/human the most. But it’s been nice to slow down and Sky is having a blast with Nanny and Grandad,” she wrote.

Despite lingering pain and discomfort, Jessie said she’s committed to clean eating, staying off pain meds, and gently resuming her body’s mobility through recovery exercises.

Recovery Update: Drain, Discomfort, and Determination

Jessie shared some of the lesser-discussed realities of post-surgical life—including the discomfort of using a surgical drain.

“Still have my drain. Anyone else who has had this, did you feel like you are walking around one of those dog/duck toys?” she joked.

“I carry mine on the floor when I’m home so gravity can help the drain. Hoping it’s out by the end of the week.”

She admitted she’s still a bit “out of it” energy-wise, asking fans not to take it personally if she seems low-key or withdrawn when spotted out and about.

“I don’t have what I usually have to give energy-wise, understandably. I will get there. It’s a slow road.”

A Mindset Rooted in Hope

Staying emotionally grounded, Jessie shared a message of positivity with fans, including a nightly reminder to count every small victory:

“Before you go to bed tonight, remember every little thing that went right. Every tiny victory and each moment that made you smile.”

While she previously declared the “cancer has all gone” in a post, Jessie later clarified that the statement was meant as a hopeful affirmation, not a confirmed fact. As of now, she’s still awaiting final pathology results.

“I pray it will be true soon but the journey of cancer isn’t that simple unfortunately.”

Jessie J’s openness and strength continue to inspire fans worldwide as she takes on one of life’s toughest battles with grace, humour, and heart.
