Emotional Jimmy Kimmel Returns to TV, Addresses Suspension
Jimmy Kimmel returned to Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday after an indefinite suspension by ABC, opening his monologue with an emotional defense of his controversial remarks. The host choked up while addressing the comments he made regarding the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
“It was never my intention to make light of the murder of a young man,” Kimmel said. “I don’t think there’s anything funny about it.” He added that his original point was misinterpreted and that he never intended to blame any specific group for the actions of a “deeply disturbed individual.” Kimmel also used his return to thank supporters and condemn the pressure put on his show by political figures, calling the affiliate decision to pull his show “un-American.”
