WWE legend and actor John Cena has revealed his strong aversion to filming intimate scenes in the film industry. During a recent appearance on the “Club Shay Shay” podcast with Shannon Sharpe, Cena candidly discussed the discomfort he felt while shooting such scenes, particularly during his role in Amy Schumer’s 2015 comedy, Trainwreck.
Known for his tough-guy persona in the wrestling ring, the 16-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion admitted that filming intimate scenes is far from the glamorous image often portrayed on screen. When asked by Sharpe if these scenes were difficult, Cena didn’t hesitate to say, “Yes!” He elaborated, explaining that while viewers might see just two people on screen, the reality is far more complicated.
“Right now, you guys at home think it’s just us,” Cena said, describing the experience as “really embarrassing.” He pointed out that the presence of a full crew makes the situation anything but intimate, stripping away any sense of privacy.
Cena highlighted that comedic sex scenes are especially challenging, as they require actors to intentionally create awkwardness while being scrutinized by an entire production team. “It’s different,” he noted, emphasizing that the reality of filming these scenes is nothing like what audiences might imagine.
Despite the awkwardness, Cena’s role in Trainwreck was part of a highly successful film that grossed $140 million at the box office. He also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to learn from Amy Schumer and director Judd Apatow, calling the experience valuable.
