Nollywood star and fitness enthusiast Kate Henshaw has humorously called out Nigerians returning from the diaspora—popularly known as “I Just Got Back” (IJGB)—for worsening the already crippling traffic in Lagos State this festive season.
Known for their annual December visits, IJGBs descend on Lagos in droves to celebrate Christmas and New Year, bringing a mix of excitement, family reunions, and, apparently, chaos on the roads.
In a candid rant, Henshaw took to social media to lament her struggle to reach the gym at 6 a.m., only to find the roads already gridlocked. “IJGB people, can you let us breathe? I’m trying to get to the gym at ten minutes to six, and there’s no chance!” the actress exclaimed.
She humorously accused the returnees of making Lagos “dirty” during their stay and leaving behind complaints about the city once they return abroad. “January, you’ll leave us here and start complaining online. Meanwhile, you’re the ones rushing down here with your families, choking everywhere!” Henshaw quipped, advising people to book hotels near their destinations to avoid being trapped in traffic.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Government has intensified efforts to curb traffic violations and environmental offences. Through the Special Offences (Mobile) Court and Lagos State Task Force, the authorities are urging motorists and pedestrians to adhere to the law or face penalties.
The sensitization campaign, themed “Zero Tolerance for Violation of Traffic Offences, Environmental Offences, and Other Related Matters,” emphasized the government’s commitment to maintaining order during the busy holiday period.
For now, it seems Lagosians will have to brace themselves for the annual IJGB influx and the inevitable traffic chaos that comes with it!
