Pop star Katy Perry opened up about her 2017 breakup with actor Orlando Bloom during a candid interview on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, revealing how their year-long split helped her grow personally and strengthened their relationship.
Perry shared that when they began dating in 2016, she wasn’t fully committed, admitting she was still navigating her emotions from a previous relationship. “I was fresh out of a relationship, and I was just like, ‘I can’t do this anymore. I need to go swim in a different pond,’” she explained, acknowledging that she wasn’t ready for something serious.
At that time, Perry enjoyed the drama of “cat and mouse games” with her partners, but Bloom had begun his own journey of self-improvement, attending the Hoffman Institute for personal growth. After returning, Bloom was no longer interested in the games, which led to their breakup. “He wasn’t playing that game anymore, and I got bored and just stepped away,” she recalled.
However, their time apart was transformative for Perry. She also attended the Hoffman Institute and gained valuable tools for personal growth, which helped her realize the importance of self-work. “I had a really tough year… and then I got the tools and spoke the same language, and it changed my life,” she said, adding that the experience “saved her life.”
The couple eventually reconciled, got engaged in 2019, and welcomed their daughter, Daisy Dove, in 2020. Perry credits their individual growth journeys as the key to their lasting relationship.
