Khloé elaborated on her podcast, “Khloé in Wonder Land,” about why Amari, who lives with a severe form of epilepsy called Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, now resides with her in Los Angeles.
A Stable Home Amidst NBA Demands
Amari’s condition requires constant, full-time care and makes travel challenging due to frequent seizures. With Tristan Thompson’s demanding NBA schedule involving extensive travel, it became clear that a stable environment was crucial for Amari’s well-being. Khloé noted that constant travel simply “wasn’t good” for Amari, making her Los Angeles home the ideal solution for stability and consistent care.
A Promise Kept to Amari’s Late Mother
Khloé’s decision is deeply rooted in her close bond with Amari and his late mother, Andrea Thompson. Before Andrea’s sudden passing in January 2023, Khloé had developed a strong friendship with her and often assisted with Amari’s medical care. Andrea was Amari’s sole caregiver, and Khloé felt a profound sense of responsibility to continue that care after her death. This commitment transcends her on-again, off-again relationship with Tristan.
Fostering Compassion in Her Children
Beyond practical considerations, Khloé believes having Amari live with her offers significant benefits for her own children, True and Tatum, whom she shares with Tristan. She explained that it helps expose them and their cousins to different types of people, fostering greater compassion, understanding, and open-mindedness. Khloé often highlights how much joy Amari brings and how special he is to her, noting how he “lights up” when around the kids.
While Tristan officially became Amari’s legal guardian, Khloé has taken on the day-to-day caregiving role, supported by two additional caretakers. Her primary goal is to ensure Amari lives the “best, most beautiful life” possible, driven by love, loyalty, and a deep commitment to family.
