Kid Cudi is going solo—completely solo—on his upcoming eleventh studio album, Free, set to drop August 22. The Grammy-winning rapper and actor made it clear in a recent post on X (formerly Twitter) that fans shouldn’t expect any guest appearances this time around.
“No features, just me. I think I’m over features unless it happens organically,” Cudi wrote.
The Entergalactic creator didn’t hold back, expressing his frustration with past collaborators who went silent after being featured on his projects.
“There’s people I’ve had on my albums that I haven’t talked to in years. Didn’t promote the album, just went ghost. Makes me feel weird. So with this one, I was like, f**k that. I don’t need anyone else on this one.”
In true Cudi fashion, he assured fans that his solo presence would be more than enough to deliver a compelling experience.
“Some people need features. Not me. I’m enough to keep y’all engaged.”
This new direction comes months after some drama between Cudi and Young Thug, who was removed from INSANO’s “RAGER BOYZ” after calling Cudi a “rat.” The fallout stemmed from Cudi’s testimony in the ongoing federal case against Sean “Diddy” Combs, where Cudi discussed his brief relationship with Cassie Ventura, Combs’ former partner. Prosecutors have alleged that Diddy was involved in breaking into Cudi’s home and orchestrating the explosion of his car—claims Diddy has publicly denied.
Beyond the headlines, Free promises a deeply conceptual experience. Cudi revealed that the album draws creative inspiration from The Truman Show, the 1998 cult classic starring Jim Carrey.
“The concept of me leaping into the clouds made so much sense,” he shared on Instagram. “Inspired by The Truman Show. I can’t WAIT for you guys to hear this album and really see the album art brought to life. You’re in for a beautiful ride. Promise.”
With Free, Kid Cudi isn’t just releasing another record—he’s giving fans an unfiltered, personal journey, with no distractions, no features, and no compromises.
