a deeply candid moment, Kim Kardashian revealed she felt she had “a bit of Stockholm syndrome” during her marriage to ex-husband Kanye West (now Ye).
The admission came during the Season 7 premiere of her Hulu reality series, The Kardashians, where the mogul opened up about the emotional toll of dealing with Ye’s public and erratic behavior, particularly concerning their four children: North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm.
“I always felt like I had a bit of Stockholm syndrome,” Kardashian said, explaining the motivation behind her actions while the couple was still together. She elaborated, “I always felt really bad and always protected and always wanted to help [him].”
The reality star confessed that even after their 2021 divorce, she struggled with persistent feelings of obligation, thinking, “I should’ve stuck it out” or “I could’ve helped.” However, she noted that for the first time, she was beginning to let go of that deeply ingrained sense of personal responsibility.
Kardashian also used the new season premiere to address the complexity of co-parenting amid her ex-husband’s frequent social media outbursts and false claims, particularly those regarding their children.
“That’s not my reality. This person we have four kids together,” she said, before shutting down the idea that she has the “luxury of walking away and not dealing with him ever again.” She then added in frustration, “It’s a divorce not a kidnapping.”
Kardashian’s comments highlight the ongoing challenge of navigating a public co-parenting relationship while protecting her children from the controversy surrounding their father.
