Nigerian singer Korede Bello has expressed concern over the declining quality of music being produced by young Nigerian artists. In a recent episode of Hip TV’s Trending, hosted by reality star KimOprah, the 28-year-old singer attributed the drop in quality to a lack of life experience among younger stars.
Bello argued that the younger an artist attains fame, the less substance their music contains. He explained, “When you start to have young artists blowing up, the quality of the music starts to reduce because they don’t have quality experiences. They don’t know how to live yet.”
He went on to compare modern music to the works of seasoned Nigerian musicians like Fela Kuti, Timaya, and African China, whose music reflected deep personal experiences and social realities. “If you listen to an African China, where he’s coming from, he has seen things. Timaya, Fela—all have experiences. Their songs are expressions of reality,” Bello said.
While acknowledging the youthfulness of many upcoming stars, Bello advised against placing blame solely on them, stating, “We should not blame these young artists; you can only give what you have.”
