Lainey Wilson’s Miles Inspired ‘Somewhere Over the Laredo’

Country superstar Lainey Wilson has revealed that the thousands of miles logged crisscrossing the country were the direct inspiration behind her reflective new single, Lainey Wilson Somewhere Over the Laredo Miles. She explained that the downtime spent “30,000 feet in the air” between tour stops provided the solitude needed to conceive the heartfelt song.

The track, which serves as a wistful tribute to a past love, was born from Wilson’s moments of introspection while flying. “When I’m flying between shows I catch myself looking out the window, talking to God, dreaming, or even reminiscing,” she shared. The lyrics explicitly capture this high-altitude reflection: “I’m flying high on a 737 / Yeah, boy, I’m eye level with these stars.”

Co-written with Trannie Anderson, Dallas Wilson, and Andy Albert, the song also cleverly pays homage to a timeless classic. The title references Laredo, Texas, while the chorus includes a clear lyrical nod to “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” with Wilson singing about “chasing this neon rainbow.” This blending of personal experience with a familiar theme has resonated strongly with fans.

The song, which is the third single from the deluxe re-issue of her album Whirlwind, demonstrates Wilson’s continued growth as a storyteller. By channeling the quiet, reflective moments of a demanding life on the road, the Lainey Wilson Somewhere Over the Laredo Miles successfully captures the theme of longing that connects small-town roots with a high-flying career.
